SAP Metadata Discovery
Understanding SAP data as easily as all other corporate data sources is a major metadata intelligence challenge.
Without this understanding, companies increase the risk of a critical operational system becoming isolated and difficult to integrate with wider corporate data and systems.
The challenge comes about because of the sophisticated nature of the SAP data architecture and the high degree of specialist knowledge required to implement & maintain it.
The solution to the problem lies in ready access to comprehensive metadata in a form that is usable by all of the technical & analyst teams across the company.
Saphir is a unique metadata intelligence tool that helps solve this problem by allowing you to locate and understand the sophisticated data structures within your SAP databases, including any database customisations and extensions that you have made.
Saphir presents data warehouse designers, business analysts and information management teams with full details on the relationships between SAP tables, making it easy to understand exactly how to join tables for queries and data extraction
Overall, Saphir enables key staff outside of the SAP team to understand and work with SAP data architectures with ease and without recourse to SAP experts.
Dedicated tool for SAP metadata analysis
Saphir is the only tool capable of producing SAP data models from implemented SAP systems.
Saphir extracts and stores full metadata definitions from your own SAP data dictionary instances, including relationships between tables. Thereby capturing exact reference models which include all your data base customizations and extensions.
Saphir’s intuitive User Interface then allows you to easily analyse this metadata to create meaningful subject areas, which can then be exported to your chosen modeling or repository environment.
This example screen from SAP Core Banking has the Program Hierarchy with tree nodes showing Components, Programs, transactions and tables. One of the tables is expanded on the right of the screenshot.
How does Saphir extract this information?
Saphir extracts metadata from the ABAP Data Dictionary using an ABAP Function that Saphir invokes using SAP RFC calls.
By utilising the Data Dictionary access tables Saphir captures all the tables exactly as implemented, including Z tables.
