SILWOOD TECHNOLOGY RELEASES JD EDWARDS AND SIEBEL STARTER PACKS FOR GDPR DATA DISCOVERY

Ascot, UK, 20 March 2018. Metadata discovery software vendor Silwood Technology Ltd has announced the availability of GDPR Starter Packs for two major application packages – JD Edwards and Siebel – enabling users to quickly and simply identify the precise location of Personal Data.

The GDPR Starter Packs are underpinned by Safyr®, a dedicated metadata discovery software, which enables users to access, understand, share and utilise the underlying data structures for all major application packages, including JD Edwards and Siebel.

Research conducted recently by Silwood Technology demonstrated the scale of the challenge encountered by users when locating personal data for GDPR compliance. For instance, within a typical Siebel system, when searching for personal data, users will be faced with approximately 5,000 tables and 170,000 fields. Similarly, JD Edwards contains 5,000 tables and 140,000 fields.

The new Starter Packs are the second and third in a series, as an SAP Starter Pack was launched in November 2017.

Silwood Technology Ltd, a supplier of enterprise application metadata intelligence software, has announced the availability of its GDPR Starter Pack for SAP, giving users of this widely implemented ERP a valuable kick-start in identifying the precise location of Personal Data fields in any SAP system.

The GDPR Starter Pack is underpinned by Safyr, a dedicated metadata discovery software product, which enables users to access, understand, share and utilise the underlying data structures for SAP applications.

Research conducted by the UK & Ireland SAP User Group shows 86% of SAP users do not fully understand how GDPR will affect their SAP landscapes and how to reach compliance.    

A critical starting point for any GDPR strategy is the location of personal information. Where some or all of that data lies in a large application package like SAP, this becomes a significant and tedious task.

As an example, consider how many times the attribute “birth” might occur in an SAP system which contains over 90,000 tables. Using Safyr in a recent client engagement, a customer was able to find all occurrences of the Personal Data string ‘birth’ across all tables and fields in an SAP system in under five minutes. That information could then be delivered to metadata and data governance platforms for further exploitation.

To simplify the ‘discovery’ process, Silwood Technology is announcing the first in a series of ‘Starter Packs’ for ERP/CRM packages that take the hard work out of identifying these fields.

The first starter pack is for SAP, the largest system in terms of the sheer volume of metadata that defines the package data. The scope and range of potential personal information in SAP is very broad. Silwood has made the process of finding these ‘Personal Data’ fields significantly easier by developing processes to seek them out, record them and make them available in a useful form.

Customers who use Silwood’s Safyr application for SAP can receive the Starter Pack free of charge. The Starter Pack comprises a set of Safyr Subject Areas that describe and identify each type of personal information, such as zip codes, dates of birth, license plates.

A Safyr Subject Area is a grouping of tables and fields that a customer can overlay on the metadata extracted from their own customised SAP system so they can easily see which tables and fields are important to GDPR.

What constitutes personal data will vary by industry – the Safyr user can combine these Subject Areas into other groups that form the consolidated set of fields for their company and requirements. And they can add in their own fields too – especially where their SAP system has been customised.

One of the major benefits of these starter packs is that they will work with the customer’s own system. Silwood will be releasing similar starter packs for the other packages in the near future.

Analysts, architects and other data professionals can now use Safyr to access, understand, share and utilise the underlying data structures for major packages from SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Microsoft and other packages.

Finding the precise location of data defined as ‘Personal’ under GDPR from amongst the thousands of tables and columns (or fields) in customised systems, represents a significant challenge. Traditional tools and methods, such as searching for documentation, using templates and reference models or employing external consultants, do not address the challenge in an effective and timely fashion.

Safyr now offers two new features in response to the need to identify all Personal Data held on an individual for GDPR compliance programs.

Marked Field – this feature addresses the problem of having large numbers of unwanted or irrelevant attributes in some tables. It enables users to easily isolate all instances of a particular term (e.g. “birth) across an entire system, and decide exactly which items of the metadata set are relevant and need to be retained. 

The feature also enables the combination of several sets of Personal Data attributes into a single manageable grouping.

Metadata Reporting – has been introduced to support organisations that may not yet have embarked on the implementation of a Data Governance or Enterprise Metadata Management platform for GDPR. It provides them with the ability to export Safyr content directly to Excel to enable faster and more effective collation and management of Personal Data.

Silwood Extends Application Metadata Intelligence Capabilities With Launch of Safyr® for Microsoft Dynamics AX

Safyr 6.4 includes a number of major enhancements including the ability to allow users to extract and analyse metadata from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

Safyr® metadata discovery software is used to surface and deliver these models in a variety of formats.

The company are making available a number of on demand data models which represent commonly requested business concepts from the packaged applications supported by their market leading metadata discovery and scoping tool, Safyr®.
