Not understanding how the underlying data model for a large packaged and often customised system from SAP, Oracle, Salesforce and others is structured puts at risk the delivery of Data Warehouse, Big Data, Master Data Management, Data Integration and Data Governance projects.

Safyr is unique in its ability to rapidly reverse engineer meaningful metadata from these applications in a few hours or minutes and then make it immediately available for data and enterprise professionals to search, navigate and find exactly what they need in the context of the project.

Safyr 6.3 brings further enhancements to its already impressive capabilities. There is a new interface which makes the product even faster and more intuitive to use.

In addition Silwood have brought to market a completely reworked version of their Enterprise Relationship (ER) Diagrammer tool which makes the task of communicating complex models containing the relevant tables and relationships with business and IT colleagues easier and more effective.

One of the most popular features of Safyr has been the recently introduced capability to provide a row count for each table in a system. This helps to filter tables with no data for example, which often reduces the time it takes to find the required tables. Silwood have now extended this facility to Salesforce and Force based applications.

Finally, Silwood have incorporated an additional Subject Area data model sharing capability by adding a generic XML export option. This will make it easier for Safyr content to be consumed by a broader range of 3rd party tools and solutions.

SAFYR® VERSION 6.1 – DATA MODEL DISCOVERY TOOL FOR ENTERPRISE APPLICATION PACKAGES NOW AVAILABLE

Silwood Technology announces the immediate availability of Safyr® v6.1 to customers with current support contracts.

There are a number of important improvements to Safyr which enhance its ability to help project staff accelerate delivery and improve access to trusted data through quicker and more comprehensive metadata search and analysis.

Safyr now incorporates tile based navigation to make it easier for new and occasional users to be productive even more rapidly.  From the tile screen users can access all areas of Safyr including the Table and Hierarchy search menus or initiate an extraction from a source system.

The tile screen also contains a link to the new multi-object search features. This enhances the search capabilities of Safyr by allowing the user to include results in the form of Tables, Views, Domains, Data Elements, and Application Hierarchies from a single search term.  By returning all the results in a series of nodes categorised by object type, Safyr makes it quicker to find exactly what is needed for the project task.

In a further development Safyr’s comparison functions have been reworked to make it possible to compare the data structures of complete applications as well as Subject areas and to export the results for further analysis.  The speed with which this can be achieved has been improved to such a degree that comparing complete SAP systems, for example is now possible within an hour.

There are a number of use cases where this facility would be of value, for example identifying the differences between individual instances of a system (e.g. SAP Paris and SAP Chicago installations) as part of an application rationalisation or consolidation project.

In a further development Safyr Version 6.1 has been certified by SAP to support metadata extraction and analysis from SAP systems running on SAP HANA®. This means that Safyr can help customers who are considering or implementing SAP HANA either as their DataWarehouse platform or for their transactional application.

SAFYR ETL FOR METADATA ENABLES RAPID SOURCE METADATA DISCOVERY FOR BROAD RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

Originally announced with Safyr 6.2, the ETL for Metadata solution allows customers and partners to make use of Safyr’s unique metadata discovery and scoping capabilities with more of their packaged applications beyond those from SAP, Oracle and Salesforce (Supported packages) and to implement a single source of trusted application metadata.

As organizations increasingly need to incorporate data from their systems of record in Big Data, Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, Master Data Management, Data Governance and other initiatives to meet the demands of the business, so being able to quickly and accurately understand how their data is structured becomes more and more critical.

The ‘ETL for Metadata’ solution (Other Packages) comprises two phases. Firstly there is a process of evaluating the target application. This is required in order to understand the location and structure of the application metadata and to evaluate the potential for it to be of value when brought into Safyr. One of the key aspects to this will be the existence of set data dictionary tables which contain sufficient detail to be useful.

Dynamics2The second stage includes the scripting of the SQL required to extract the metadata into a set of files and the mapping of that content into Safyr’s own metamodel. Once this is completed the metadata is transformed and loaded as required, tested and made ready for use.

Experience has shown that this whole process takes less than a week. For example, using the ‘ETL for Metadata’ process for Microsoft Dynamics was completed in less than 7 days.

From this point on the user has access to the Safyr functionality to locate exactly the part of the data model which is relevant for the project at hand.

The information held within Safyr can be shared and reused, enabling the metadata to form a key part of the enterprise data ecosystem.

With Safyr 6.2, Silwood has advanced the capabilities of the product by introducing an additional module which provides support for extracting metadata from Salesforce which reflects that application’s growing importance as a critical system of record for many organisations. Click here for more details

In addition Silwood have developed what is described as an ‘ETL for metadata’ approach to allow metadata from virtually any other packaged application to be loaded, as implemented by the customer, into Safyr for scoping and analysis. Click here for more details. Both this and the Salesforce capability are cost options.

In a further development, Silwood have now made available a number of pre-configured Safyr Subject Areas for SAP and JD Edwards which run against the application as implemented. These are available to existing supported customers on request and further reduce the time taken by analysts and architects to locate tables and relationships pertinent to their needs.
