Safyr is particularly useful when you have added a significant number of your own Cubes to the standard content delivered by SAP and has a need to explain the capabilities of the available cubes to a wider corporate audience.
Where the BW system is undergoing rapid change, Safyr’s comparison feature helps to quickly identify the scope and nature of those changes, either between different versions of the same system or between different BW instances.
Whether you are looking for specific objects in SAP BW or trying to populate your enterprise data catalog solutions with thousands of objects, Safyr for SAP BW will be of value to you.
Customers use Safyr to solve the 3 challenges associated with SAP BW Metadata Discovery.
These are:
Discovery: Locating the source of the useful, business ready metadata in your applications. There is very little of any value in the data system catalog. The useful metadata is in a series of data dictionary tables in SAP.
Scoping and curation: Once the metadata has been located, the next challenge is to find the table or tables necessary for your task and save them for use in other tools and systems.
Delivery: The final hurdle is to provision the metadata into other tools and technical formats. These include data catalog and governance solutions such as Collibra, Informatica EDC, Alation, Infogix, ASG and Adaptive as well as data modeling tools such as SAP PowerDesigner, ER/Studio, erwin. Or you might want to use the information in Excel, CSV, XML or JSON formats.

Safyr liberates accurate, understandable metadata from SAP BW systems and enables the discovery and curation of that metadata.
In addition to the ‘data at rest’ definitions of BW ‘objects’ like InfoCubes, ADSOs and Hana Composite Providers, Safyr shows the lineage between objects in a BW system. In the example screen opposite, a BW DataSource is shown with the hierarchy of other BW objects that consume the data from the DataSource. In this case, a Cube (0CCA_C20). This cube is in turn used by a MultiProvider (0CCA_M20) and that MultiProvider is used by four BW Queries.
And of course this lineage is a ‘two-way street’. For any BW Object, the ‘Based on’ tab will show the lineage flowing back to those objects that are the basis of the data.
But Safyr is not just a way to understand the complexities of metadata in a SAP BW system. The same level of information can be used to provision a range of Data Catalog and Governance tools.
