Can Safyr address my other packages?
The answer is Yes . . . within reason
Safyr® has specific capabilities to address packages from SAP, Salesforce and vendors who developed applications on the Force platform, Microsoft, and Oracle.
However, we often get asked if the product can be used on other package applications and Safyr now has features to make the extraction and capture of the metadata from those packages practical and achievable within a short timeframe.
Silwood have developed an ‘ETL for Metadata’ capability which we can use to define the extraction processes required to harvest the business friendly metadata from the chosen source environments, and to create the mappings to the Safyr repository.
Using this approach, just about any package application can be ‘reverse engineered’ into Safyr, providing:
- The required metadata is in a relational database (e.g. Oracle)
- That database has tables containing the required metadata
How long will it take?
The process of defining a new data source for mapping into Safyr consists broadly of 3 steps:
- Research work to identify which tables store the required metadata
- Definition of a set of queries to extract metadata from the relevant tables
- Definition of mapping between these tables and the Safyr repository
Each package has its own features and challenges. However, the task of addressing a new package will take a competent analyst who has a familiarity with SQL and database concepts a matter of a few days to complete. Once the definition work is done, any other instance of that package will be addressable. It is Silwood Technology’s intention to offer a growing range of ‘generic’ package solutions, as usage of this feature grows. We have already used this approach to address Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Other packages are in development.
